Monkeys in my family tree

Still jumping through hoops to see the genetic counsellor. Apparently I have to get a referral from my primary care physician because this is preventative rather than treatment of the cancer. Unfortunately, I'm between primary care providers right now, because I've pretty much ditched the doc that kept saying "I'm so sorry" instead of anything useful. I also had to call the admitting folks back and try to give them my insurance info. But their computer wouldn't bring up the proper screen, for some reason.

Anyway, I do have a meeting with the genetic counsellor who will go through my family tree with me and look for any monkeys. Or rather probable cancer-causes. And then I meet with a clinical oncologist to chat about what the genetic counsellor said. I'm beginning to wonder if this is worth it, to tell you the truth. If they're not going to take any of my DNA and do one of those tests that you see on City Confidential or one of the other true crime shows on A&E, then I'm not sure what fun it could possibly be.

We're supposed to get hit with a Nor'easter here tomorrow. Yes, people actually use that word. Next thing, I expect them to start singing sea shanties. "I'se the buy that builds the boat and I'se the buy that sails her, I'se the buy that catches the fish an' brings it home to Lisa." Anyhow, they're now saying 5-10 inches of snow. I guess because February was pretty much snow-free (although cold) here, it's all coming now. And it's supposed to hit during the evening commute. Oh joy.

I've signed up for a share of Waltham Community Farms. I get to go each week and get a portion of the harvest, all summer long. Hopefully this will inspire me to actually consume vegetables (I know, I know, it's a frightening thought!). Not only do I get veggies, but also herbs and even cut flowers! Neat, huh? And I don't have to grow them myself (black thumb). Although I have had a friend who has moved to an apartment volunteer to be my gardening mentor, so maybe I'll actually plant some of the seeds I bought last year! :)
